In commemoration of Customer Service Week 2026, the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has reinforced its commitment to community development by empowering women with practical skills aimed at promoting self-reliance, economic inclusion and sustainable livelihoods.
The initiative, implemented as part of KEDCO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, focuses on equipping women with soap-making skills, enabling them to transform locally available resources into marketable products while creating opportunities for sustainable income generation.
When women are equipped with practical skills and meaningful opportunities, families become stronger, communities become more resilient and possibilities become limitless. This philosophy underpins KEDCO’s commitment to ensuring that its customer-focused initiatives create meaningful impact beyond electricity service delivery.
Speaking on the initiative, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of KEDCO, Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta, said the company’s commitment to its customers goes beyond the provision of electricity, emphasising that meaningful customer service must also contribute to the wellbeing and development of the communities KEDCO serves.
“When women rise, communities rise. Empowering women with skills and opportunities is not only an investment in individuals; it is an investment in families, communities and the future.”
Dr. Jimeta explained that Customer Service Week provides an opportunity for KEDCO to reflect on its relationship with customers while demonstrating that service excellence extends beyond responding to electricity needs to creating meaningful and lasting impact within the communities it serves.
The women beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to KEDCO for the initiative, describing the training as an opportunity to acquire practical skills that can improve their livelihoods, strengthen their economic independence and enable them to contribute more meaningfully to their families.
Beyond the immediate training, the initiative reflects KEDCO’s broader “People First” philosophy and its commitment to creating value not only through improved service delivery but also through initiatives that promote empowerment, inclusion and sustainable community development.
As KEDCO joins organisations around the world in celebrating Customer Service Week, the company continues to reaffirm that excellent service is ultimately about people — listening to them, supporting them and creating opportunities that make a lasting difference.
The initiative therefore represents more than a skills-acquisition programme; it is a demonstration of KEDCO’s belief that meaningful customer service should extend beyond the meter to the lives, livelihoods and communities connected to it.
When women are empowered, families gain strength. When families gain strength, communities move forward. And when communities move forward, the impact reaches far beyond the moment.
KEDCO remains committed to putting people first, empowering communities and powering progress across the communities it serves.
