The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kano Electricity Distribution Plc (KEDCO), Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta, has reaffirmed the Company’s commitment to workplace safety, declaring it a non-negotiable core value and directing all frontline personnel to strictly comply with safety standards under the “No PPE, No Work” policy.
Dr. Jimeta made this declaration during the official launch and distribution of new Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline staff at the Company’s headquarters, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen KEDCO’s safety culture and prevent workplace accidents.
He emphasised that the safety of employees and customers remains a top priority for the Company, stressing that every member of staff must take personal responsibility for maintaining safe working conditions and adhering to established safety procedures.
“Every member of staff deserves to return home safely after work, and this can only be achieved by following safety rules at all times,” Dr. Jimeta stated.
The KEDCO Chief Executive further directed that no employee should undertake any official assignment without wearing the appropriate protective equipment, warning against negligence, unsafe practices and shortcuts that could expose personnel and members of the public to avoidable risks.
He highlighted the importance of properly using essential protective equipment, including safety boots, helmets, reflective jackets, hand gloves and other safety gear, particularly for frontline personnel engaged in electricity distribution, field operations and technical services.
The distribution of the new PPE forms part of KEDCO’s broader commitment to providing its workforce with the necessary tools and resources to perform their duties safely and efficiently while minimising exposure to occupational hazards.
Dr. Jimeta reiterated that the Company would continue to implement initiatives that promote employee welfare, strengthen operational safety and protect customers, noting that a strong safety culture is fundamental to sustainable service delivery and operational excellence.
