Kano Electricity Distribution Plc (KEDCO) has launched a vocational training programme in practical soap-making skills for less privileged women in the Kawaja Jigi Riya Community of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and commitment to empowering its host communities.
The programme, which commenced on 29 September 2026, was led by the Chief Commercial Officer, Alhaji Muhammad Aminu Dantata, and is designed to equip participating women with practical skills to support self-reliance, income generation and sustainable livelihoods.
The programme was attended by Nuhu Adamu Mai Anguwa Jigi Riya Kawaja, Community Leader of Kawaja Jigi Riya Community, whose participation underscored the importance of community collaboration in promoting grassroots development and ensuring that empowerment initiatives create meaningful impact.
Speaking at the programme, Alhaji Muhammad Aminu Dantata emphasised the importance of creating opportunities that enable members of the community to build their capacity and become economically independent. He noted that KEDCO’s responsibility extends beyond the provision of electricity, as the Company remains committed to initiatives that create meaningful and lasting impact in the lives of the people and communities it serves.
He further stressed the importance of equipping individuals with practical skills that can be converted into sustainable sources of income, particularly among women and other vulnerable members of society.
The soap-making empowerment programme forms part of KEDCO’s pre-activities ahead of the 2026 Customer Service Week, reinforcing the Company’s commitment to putting people at the heart of its operations and strengthening its relationship with the communities it serves.
